Projects

Since getting the lathe of course I had a list of stuff I wanted to do with it
Adjustable Toolpost
Live centre
Ball turning

Time for my first project!!

Adjustable Toolpost
I did start to build a new adjustable toolpost,
but shortly after turning the centre I realised that I required a lot more tooling (££££)before the project could really get anywhere as it involves techniques such as
boring (no boring tool yet - though Fizz would argue that most of my tools are boring!!)
flycutting (again no flycutter)
milling (no end mills or vertical slide)
Project stalled till I get used to the simple stuff

Kona cable stop
Anyway as it happens I wanted to try and fit V brakes to my old steel Kona bike frame - but alas it doesnt have a brake boss at the rear to take the cable
Hopefully the following pics will show my proud first work :-) It involved turning a piece of steel 9m dia, drilling a through hole for the inner cable and being able to locate the outer cable and sawing/filing a slot and brazing it to the frame so my rear brake cables could go from inner cable to outer cable to the brakes
Not rocket science, but practical and very satisfying knowing I can now stop my bike

Needed to chop down a distributer as it was no longer needed due to going wasted spark, and still requiring to turn the oil pump
The distributer "head" was chopped off by hand and tidied up using the lathe (damned hard stuff these shafts!!)
The alloy body was bored out to take a brass bush and the brass bush was made to be a press fit
Not heard any bad news from the guy so assume all is well ;-)
