The Rewire

<< Back to DIY page <<

Ok so when we moved in we knew that we would need more sockets, and lots of them
The house is typical 60's with aprox 1 socket per room so we invested in lots of 4 way extensions
We have got away with it for a couple of years, but the old sockets are starting to break down
And are in desperate need of being replaced, so now is the time to tackle the rewire

Luckily I have most of the gear for sinking sockets, and have got it down to about 1 minute per double socket
The only problem is it takes 1/2 hour per socket to get rid of the dust :-)
I bought a cheap but damned powerful SDS drill that can do hammer action drill, and drill lockout so it becomes a mini kango hammer

Combined with the right kit, sinking the patresses is a doddle

Even comes with instructions

..then do the other hole..
Dusty but effective
Finally use the square chisel bit on hammer action only , creating a fairly neat patress sized hole

The next stage will be to have the old key electric meter moved so we can fit the new consumer unit in place and start getting wires from the new sockets run...

Please call back to see the results :-)
